“Jadilah Terang Di Tengah Kegelapan – Be the Light in the Darkness” (2 Cor 4:6)

Our History

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Jesus – Matthew 16:18
Pastor William Hosanna presiding, with Mrs. Lulu Shira translating.

Jesus said these words over 2000 years ago. It was central to the message in our inauguration sermon presented by Pastor William Hosanna on Soli-Deo’s Inauguration Service March 7th, 2004.

At that time, several Indonesian families were strongly called by the Lord to establish a church in the Arlington area, to serve Indonesian families in the Dallas Fort-Worth. Among them are by Pastor Eliyah Shira, Sidarta Aliwarga, Eddy Liesdyanto, followed by Okie Setiawan.

Many years have passed since then, but our mission to reach out to Indonesians living in Dallas Fort Worth metroplex has not changed. Since its inception, Soli-Deo Indonesian Church has been a Bible based Christian ministry dedicated to serving and reaching Indonesians living Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Although the church focuses on serving the Indonesian community, the name of the church, Soli-Deo, is not Indonesian. The church’s name is Latin for “God Alone”. It is derived from the five solas of the Protestant Reformation:

  • Sola Scriptura (“Only (by) Scripture”),
  • Sola Fide (“Only (by) Faith”)
  • Sola Gratia (“Only (by) Grace”)
  • Solus Christus (“Only (by) Christ”)
  • Soli-Deo Gloria (“Only (to) God, Glory!”).

These five solas summarizes our faith: that the Bible is the inspired word of a perfect God. Like the creator, it is perfect – completely inerrant and without blemish. Unlike the creator, all of us have fallen short of the glory of God. It is only by the love and Grace of God, that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, as the perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins, so that whoever has Faith in him will not perish, but have eternal life.

It is solely by Faith that we are saved, and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9), and thus salvation is the result of God’s Grace. Since salvation cannot be earned by works, no one who can boast in their own righteousness, Thus all glory, worship, and praise belong to God alone.

It is because of Christ – and Christ alone – that we are saved. Let all glory be Him: Soli-Deo Gloria.

Now regardless of language, tribe, or nations, we believe that Christ Himself is the One who builds His church –without stain or wrinkle – just as it is written in Ephesians 5:27 And to present her to Himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Furthermore, Jesus calls all of us to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)

That is why we are committed to serving Indonesian families living in North Texas, sharing the gospel in a language that is familiar and accessible. We recognize the importance of proclaiming the good news in one’s heart language. As such, our service is primarily conducted in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia). However, if you do not understand Indonesian, there is no need to worry — we provide translation devices and live English translation.

It is our hope that here you will encounter God, grow in the knowledge of His loving grace and His wonderful plan of salvation, and be strengthened in your spiritual walk, We pray that you will find a community marked by grace, warm fellowship, and joy in serving the Lord.

If you are a missionary seeking to reach out the Indonesian community, our church would be a wonderful place to begin. And if you do not yet have a home church, you are warmly invited – we would love for you to join us this Sunday.
